In this portion of the curriculum, you will learn how to do the following:

  • Turn your SMART Aim into a Quality Improvement/Patient Safety project.

  • Learn about the various outcomes you could affect including reducing healthcare inequity, reducing adverse events and/or improving the delivery of care.

  • Learn several techniques that can serve to prioritize the elements composing the process you hope to improve.

  • Chose an element on which you can design an improvement project.

At the end of the packet, there are example problems with which you can practice using the various tools described. Then, you should use one or more of the tools to find the element of a process that will help you reach the goal stated in your SMART Aim statement.
