Jenica Chandran

Q: What are you doing now, and how do you like it?
A: I'm currently working at Northwell Physician Partners on East 58th Street in Manhattan! I like it a lot. It's been very helpful working in a system I'm already familiar with.

Q: How did the PCT help get you to where you are now?
A: The Primary Care track helped me discover how beneficial relationship-based patient-centered care can be. I found myself following up more frequently with my panel patients during my long blocks and we were able to accomplish a lot of their health care goals.

Q: How did you customize your Long Blocks?
A: In my first year, I used that time to experience different outpatient specialties who I would eventually find myself referring to (like endocrine, pulmonary, and cardiology). During PGY-2, I spent a lot of time working on my QI. As a PGY-3, part of being the Primary Care Track Chief meant creating the curriculum schedule for the year and mentoring the new interns, so I spent some time teaching the first few sessions of journal club and ambulatory-based curriculum.

Q: Any projects/publications that you’d like to highlight?
A: My QI project focusing on improving lung cancer screenings was the first resident-led presentation at our hospital-wide QI meetings. I worked with Dr. Brett Bade and his team to collect data on the Northwell primary care and pulmonology clinics in Manhattan to better understand where the gaps were in screenings and how we could better target these populations or workflows.

Q: What is your favorite book that you read recently?
A: Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan!
