Q: Why did you choose to apply to the Primary Care Track?
A: I applied to the primary care track because I sought greater exposure to outpatient medicine than is typically provided in standard residency programs. The unique structure of this track allows residents to tailor their extended ambulatory blocks to their specific interests. This flexibility in scheduling enabled me to pursue areas I am passionate about and gain in-depth knowledge and experience. Additionally, the dedicated outpatient mentorship offered in this program is invaluable. Having the opportunity to learn from experienced mentors in a focused setting aligns perfectly with my goal of becoming a well-rounded physician in primary care.
Q: What has been your favorite part of training in the Primary Care Track?
A: My favorite part of the PCT is how the trail fostered collaborative and supportive relationships, creating a sense of family within the larger program. It was incredibly rewarding to have a group of people who not only guided and supported me but also shared in the joy and fun of the experience together.
Q: What are you looking forward to about your future career in medicine? (Basically, what do you plan to do after residency?)
A: I am passionate about academic medicine, and my clinical interests center on health equity and providing comprehensive care to underserved populations. I am deeply committed to building meaningful, long-term relationships with patients, advocating for their health, and mentoring future generations of physicians.
Q: How have you customized your Long Block?
A: I customized my long block to focus on outpatient POCUS, underserved community medicine, preventative medicine, HIV primary care, quality improvement. I have also had the opportunity to work with our program director, Dr. Killian, on curriculum development.
Q: Any projects/publications that you’d like to highlight?
A: I am currently working on a quality improvement project, “Successfully Implementing Medicare Annual Wellness Visits in a Teaching Practice”, which focuses on Working on increasing our current AWV completion rate by 40% in 6 months by increasing resident/physician knowledge, team-based approach of identifying and closing the gaps, and proper documentation/coding. Q: What do you like do for fun outside of medicine?
A: I like to travel, try different fitness classes, and bake new desserts.
